Our Founder
Shri Nanjibhai Kalidas Mehta, founder of the Mehta Group, was renowned for his entrepreneurial skills, philanthropy, and nationalist spirit. His entrepreneurial journey began at age 13 and spanned decades of braving the elements and the odds to make 46 voyages to Africa. He started there with vegetable growing before establishing 29 ginneries and expanding into sugar production and tea and coffee plantations. After creating jobs for over 10,000 Africans, the gifted entrepreneur turned to India with a textile unit in Porbandar, followed by oil mills, ginneries, and a cement plant. Nanjibhai also established Arya Kanya Gurukul in Porbandar, the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Kirti Mandir, Maharshi Dayanand Science College, and contributed to African educational institutions. Throughout his lifetime, Nanjibhai Mehta displayed courage, humanity, business acumen, and a growth mindset across continents. His legacy lives on as The Mehta Group thrives and continues contributing to the country, the environment, and the community.
